Chapter 1: The Gnostic Awakening and the Nature of Gnosis

1.1 The Illusion of Human Religions and the Nature of the True God

All of man’s religious constructions and forms of God represent only futile and lost attempts to gain power over the divine. In such systems, man does not bow down to real transcendence, but on the contrary, he tries to make the divinity worship him and serve his earthly goals. If the religion is headed by a creative lower deity – the Demiurge, any effort to reform such a system is a complete waste of time. That which is rotten from the very foundations must inevitably fall by itself, for in these systems the living Divinity must never be freely examined.

The true Gnostic One True Good God does not require anyone to worship Him. His glory is already infinite and does not need worship. Instead of cult slavery, this True God seeks out each individual person and approaches each one in his or her own unique way. Human beings are so essential to him that he seeks a specific path of Life for each individuality. From this ontological fact derives a fundamental Gnostic right: every human being has the full and inalienable right to freely inquire about the Divine. The true True Divinity will come to the individual in a completely unique way, which means that one person’s path to the True God will never be identical to that of his neighbor. There are just as many Divine ways as there are people.

Gnosis is the only true path of free exploration and encounter with the true Gnostic One True Good God. Without this direct encounter, no religious path can be considered true or authentic. This encounter gives birth to free people—Friends of God—and never leads to teachings of false obedience or submission. In no religion or spirituality can man be called a slave or a servant of God, for a Deity who would need a human slave for his glory has no natural glory.
