Valentinův Demiurg „je nemyslící a hloupý a neví, co činí a působí“ (Evangelium pravdy), a zaslouží si spíše soucit než nenávist a strach.

Is the Demiurge/Jaldabaoth/Jahweh Satan?
Unfortunately, I increasingly come across the statement in mny forums that the Demiurge/Jaldabaoth/Yahweh is Satan, the devil. But it definitely isn’t! In all main and famous Gnostic schools (Basilides, Valentinus, Sethians, even Marcion) he is presented as a lower, imperfect, limited, but nevertheless DIVINE essence, which is part of the Pleroma (Divine world) and will return to it at the end of time. Yadabaoth of Sethians is ‘misshapen’, ‘ignorant darkness’ (The Secret Book of John or The Apocryphon of John) but surely not Satan. Valentinus’ Demiurge “is unthinking and foolish, and knows not what he does and effects” (Gospel of Truth) and deserves rather pity than hate and fear. Cerinthus regards the Jewish God-Creator and his commandments with certain affection and compassion – his Demiurge has the features of divine Logos of Philo of Alexandria. Some Gnostics even considered him to seek to correct the world through the moral law, as did Ptolemy. He characterized the Creator as „neither good, nor evil, nor unjust, but judging by his own truth.“
It is a huge mistake to somehow connect Gnosticism with Satanism and to turn Gnosticism into Satanism. This phenomenon really worries me! Be careful please with such speculations!
